Marie's Memories

Lions and Lioness Clubs

Recently Marie recalled the early days of the Eden Prairie Lions and Lioness Clubs. Most residents of Eden Prairie are probably not aware of the significant contributions of these clubs. From Fire Trucks to eye glasses they have contributed a great deal to the community. The Lions Club was chartered in 1961 and provides an opportunity for members to give back to their community.

The Lions International is committed to serve the blind and visually impaired. Locally they serve this need and many other projects.

The Lions Club (with help from the Lioness Club) raise money through Schooner Days (a community celebration held in early June every year), Corn Feed, Pancake Breakfast, and Golf Tournament. They currently meet at Edenwood Camp (another recipient of the generous work of the Lions Club). The list of charter members is a who’s who of the early days of Eden Prairie. It includes the names ...... Holasek, Bren, Clark, Brekke, Beggs, Hecker, Pavelka, Rogers, Spande, Schaitberger, Menge, Kakach, Connaughty, Emerson, Tuckey, Schwartz, and others.

The Lioness Club was chartered in 1973 - 74. Charter night was held at Bursch’s Cafe in Hopkins MN. Often they share projects with the Lions Club. They meet on the first Thursday (September - November and January - May) The Lioness Club is always looking for new members, if interested contact Peggy Muller at 952-937-0909.
